about
Wings - I have a soft spot in my heart for all the friends and families of loved ones that struggle with addiction. The worry sometimes turns into anxiety or depression and can be overwhelming. I hope my song inspires you to give yourself permission to be happy. Although the journeys are intertwined we only get to control our own and happiness is a choice (albeit sometimes a challenging one to make)
lyrics
VERSE ONE (duet 1) female
I see you, broken mother
And I’ve cried in the dark,
A young son addicted
His life a question mark
VERSE TWO (duet 2) male
And the father fighting demons
Since his daughter was a teen
She’s struggling in her thirties,
His broken heart extreme
PRE-CHORUS (together)
We saw beauty in their hearts,
For glimpses they were gold,
But the stronger we became,
The more their use took hold
CHORUS (back and forth/together)
If only I could be his wings until he learned to fly (female)
I wish I could be her wings to help her stay alive (male)
But, until they're ready to come back in soar their own sky- - Start again
We have be our wings (both)
VERSE THREE
Years turned into decades
We very seldom spoke, (female)
And every time the phone rang
I hoped the spell had broke,(male)
PRE-CHORUS (together)
We saw beauty in their hearts,
For glimpses they were gold,
But the stronger we became,
The more their use took hold
CHORUS (back and forth/together)
If only I could be his wings until he learned to fly (female)
I wish I could be her wings to help her stay alive (male)
But, until they're ready to come back in soar their own sky- - Start again
We have to be our wings, our own wings (both)
BRIDGE
Some of us are lucky cause our loved ones learned to fly
Some may not have made it and it’s okay to cry
Some are still out using and we’re keeping hope alive
But no matter the outcome, our future’s not defined
CHORUS (back and forth/together)
And our wings are still divine, we deserve to fly
To grant ourselves permission for soaring way up high
We will remember, we may grieve, while we grant ourselves reprieve
Together we can be our wings, cause we can only be our wings

I'm in the process of reinventing myself as a songwriter and musician.
After a quarter
of a century in the financial world, I was dreaming of a second calling. I didn't start this new journey until shortly before I turned 60, so sometimes it feels like I'm in a race with the clock! Then, I realize I'm having so much fun that it's all good. I would love to use my music to generate social messages....more
